clean-energy-packageThe European Commission has just released its “Clean Energy For All Europeans” package, which includes key Energy Union legislative proposals: revisions of the Directives on Energy Efficiency (EED), Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) and Renewable Energy Sources (RED) including biomass sustainability rules, as well as a new Electricity Market Design and Energy Union governance framework.

Following the release of the package, Managing Director Paul Voss said: “While the broad scope of this package doesn’t lend itself to 140 character reactions, we can already say with confidence it constitutes a significant milestone in the process of building a regulatory framework for the European energy transition. The district heating industry will carefully study the proposals and support the co-legislators as they negotiate the final versions of the texts. If we get the details right – and there are of course many details to consider! – this package will allow district heating and cooling networks to fully realise their potential to bring efficient, low carbon heating and cooling to the heart of cities all across the EU. We are ready to do our part in delivering the Energy Union.”

Earlier this year, the European Commission also published the first ever EU Strategy on Heating and Cooling. Euroheat & Power will work closely with policy-makers to ensure the uptake of the Strategy’s vision throughout today’s legislative proposals: the decarbonisation of European buildings based on energy efficiency, the shift to renewable energy and the synergies between heating and cooling and the electricity system through means of efficient district heating.
