Past webinars:

  •  27 October 2020 | 10:00-11:00 (CET) – Turboden: Decarbonisation of Heat and Power

? This session was recorded and is available here

Thermal comfort is the biggest source of carbon emissions, the fossil fuel gases that contribute to climate change and decarbonising heat and power is key to meet the targets for cutting carbon emission by 2050. Sustainable heating and power solutions have a vital role to play. This webinar provides an overview of the decarbonisation challenge and possible solutions such as low carbon heating innovation, sector coupling and the integration of renewables in a modern district heating network.

Your experts:
• Andrea Magalini, Turboden (presentation PDF)
• Lorenzo Spadoni, President AIRU | A2A Calore & Servizi

  • 16 September 2020 | 11:00-12:00 (CET) – Austroflex: Heat Networks 4.0

? This session was recorded and is available here

Webinar highlights included a summary of (ultra) low temperature heat networks and their importance, insights to several project cases, like Villach Landskron (Austria) including current obstacles and how to overcome those.

Your experts were:
• Christian Engel, Austroflex (presentation PDF)
• Lorenz Leppin / Ingo Leusbrock, AEE-INTEC

Thank you very much!
  • 26 August 2020 | 15:00-16:00 (CET) – Vattenfall: How Smart Energy System Integration becomes reality: building blocks and challenges

? This session was recorded and is available here

This webinar took a look at Berlin where Vattenfall is making Smart Energy System Integration happen. Building blocks: Power-to-heat (electric boilers, large heat pumps etc.), CHP plants (fired by natural gas, later on hydrogen or synthetic fuels), heat buffers, excess heat integration, utilisation of originally renewable sources (e.g. geothermal or solar thermal) and smart system operation based on „smartly metered data“.

Presenters:

• Markus Witt, Vice President for Asset Management BU Heat, Vattenfall

Thank you for the clear explanation Markus!
Thank you very much!
Great integration – congratulations!

? This session was recorded and is available here

Topics explored in the webinar included:

• An overview of the new EED (European Energy Directive) requirements for remote readable heat meters
• The growing importance of smart meters and how this will enable digital district heating and cooling
• How digitalisation can impact planning, operation and maintenance of district heating and cooling networks
• Current obstacles to getting started

Presenters:

• Steen Schelle Jensen, Head of Product Management, Kamstrup

  • 17 June 2020 | 14:30-16:45 – City Focus: Local Leaders on the Front Lines of the Heating and Cooling Revolution

? This session was recorded and is available HERE.

Half of Europe’s energy consumption today is made up of heating and cooling and most of that demand is met through the burning of oil and gas. In an increasingly urbanised world, cities have both the power and the responsibility to deliver the change we need and make the heating and cooling revolution happen.
Many European cities have inspiring stories to tell about how have managed or how they plan their heat transition towards a 100% green, reliable system based on local sources and heat networks. During the webinar we will hear from four remarkable cities from all corners of Europe, from very advanced decarbonised systems going the extra mile, to retrofitting and decarbonising existing networks, to getting a new network started.
Tune in, discuss with the cities and ask all your questions during the break-out sessions!

Moderator: Sofia Lettenbichler

Speakers:
• Ivan Ivankovic – City of Zagreb
• John O’Shea – Codema-Dublin’s Energy Agency
• Laura Uuttu-Deschryvere – City of Helsinki
