Visit the STORM Demonstration Site in Rottne, Sweden!

The local heating plant in Rottne, a city close to Växjö, is one of the STORM demo sites and this year the plant has its twenty year anniversary!

To celebrate this, STORM project partner Växjö Energie, organises an open house on 26th of August. During that day you can experience guided tours of the local heating plant, you can find out how the production works and learn about the impact of the smart district heating controller. The visits target customers of the heating network and other interested locals, as well as local policy-makers, industry experts and professionals working on energy efficiency and renewables.

Latest News on STORM Controller

After some early test versions, the first version of the STORM controller was finalised in 2016. It has been consequently activated in the demonstration sites. This first version focused on further developing models for the Forecaster and Tracker functionality, while keeping a basic version of the Planner. The second version of STORM, launched during 2017, incorporates a more advanced version of the Planner while also seeing upgrades for both the Forecaster and Tracker. The demo sites are updated with the new version during the course of 2017. Therefore, evaluation results of both versions will be made available in due time. The STORM website has been updated to better showcase the control strategies and modules of the controller.

UK decentralised energy ‘has a very strong future’

2017 marks 50 years since Alfred Ernest Haseler founded the UK’s District Heating Association.

In 1985 it became the Combined Heat and Power Association and in 2015 it was renamed to the Association for Decentralised Energy. Decentralized Energy spoke to Director Tim Rotheray about the evolution of the organisation, progress made and obstacles yet to be overcome.

A green heating network in Béthune

The City of Béthune has selected Dalkia for its new heating network, which will serve 6,500 household equivalents via a public service concession. A single “green” network will replace the two existing networks and draw from local, renewable and recovered energy, including mine gas from former mines supplied by Française de l’Energie.

2nd largest district heating network of Île-de-France

By now contributing over 50% of renewable energies to the energy mix of the district heating network of the city and towns of Saint-Denis, Stains, Pierrefitte and L’Ile-Saint-Denis, this boiler unit, converted to biomass, illustrates the dynamism of the local area and its action in favour of the energy transition.
