CELSIUS wins EU Sustainable Energy Award

“I feel very proud, maybe even more proud than I expected to feel. It’s a confirmation of all the hard and great work we have done and a symbol of the importance of our project”, says CELSIUS Project Coordinator Katrina Folland.

The EU Sustainable Energy Awards are a major feature of the annual EUSEW Policy Conference. CELSIUS was one of twelve finalists across four categories of the year’s most successful projects for clean, secure and efficient energy. In the Public sector category, jury member Professor Marianne Haug presented the award to CELSIUS, alongside Commissioner Cañete.

Professor Haug praised the project’s growth from five consortium cities to a network of 66 additional member cities, and particularly highlighted CELSIUS’s success in bundling the project’s results by “turning the tables on the Commission” and making our own EU-policy recommendations.

On stage to accept the award were Katrina Folland, Sarah Johnstone and Sebastian Marx from the City of Gothenburg, and Simon Wyke from GLA.

Katrina in her acceptance speech thanked the Consortium for their dedication and emphasised the benefits of DHC to cities and citizens.

“I feel very proud, maybe even more proud than I expected to feel. I am also honoured and surprised, as there are a lot of other great projects here. I think this award will be important for us moving forward” said CELSIUS Project Coordinator Katrina Folland after the ceremony.
