Czech Republic: Veolia Strengthens Its Position on the Energy Services Market

By taking over the assets of Prazska TEPLÁRENSKÁ LPZ SA, Veolia now operates the district heating networks of much of the city of Prague on the left bank of the Vltava river.

The Group also manages the plants that supply the heating network: the Veleslavin and Juliska power plants (with respective outputs of 132 MWth and 51 MWth), and 28 gas boilers (with a total capacity of 340 MWth). Veolia thereby provides heating to 55,000 homes in Prague, as well as to municipal and commercial buildings.

“This success gained in Prague is a major structural step which will strengthen our business in the capital of the Czech Republic, where we already manage water and wastewater services”, said Philippe Guitard, Senior Executive Vice President Central & Eastern Europe. “The management of heating networks for municipal customers is one of the areas we want to develop in Central and Eastern Europe, and I am delighted that we are now handling this business in another of the region’s capitals”.

Veolia already operates energy services in several cities in the Czech Republic: Ostrava, Frýdek-Místek, Olomouc, Přerov, Novy Jicin, Krnov, Kolin, Vlašim and Marianske Lazne. In total the Group manages heating networks for nearly 712,000 people and provides energy services to 225 industrial companies.
