Gradyent: reducing heat losses with the power of data and smart analytics

District heating networks deliver increasingly green energy to houses, offices and industry. We believe that they are an important part of our journey towards a 100% sustainable heat delivery.

However, currently between 20 and 40% of the heat energy is lost during transport. What contributes to this are unnecessary high temperatures in the net, caused by large control buffers to ensure supply temperatures will never be too low.

Gradyent digital network twin technology

To provide more visibility on their network assets, Gradyent has developed a digital twin. This makes important actual parameters such as temperatures and flows, but also issues and anomalies visible to operators, asset managers and service departments. Secondly, our real time optimizer uses this information to calculate optimum setpoints for the primary net and substations. This technology enables heat loss reductions of 10%, while providing new insights that can help improve expansion and investment decisions.
