The electrode boilers – centrepiece of Europe’s largest power-to-heat plant have now been delivered and assembled in Berlin-Spandau.

Each boiler weighs 9.1 tonnes, has a diameter of 2.60 meters and a height of 4.50 meters. 22,000 litres of water can be heated in each of these boilers to up to 130 degrees Celsius for district heating supply.

Overall, the plant will have 120 megawatts of heat output and from 2019 will supply district heating from environmentally friendly generated electricity for 30,000 households.

Vattenfall has invested in this new heating technology using renewable electricity (power-to-heat) to support the energy transition in Germany.
