Back in 2019, Veolia adopted its purpose (“raison d’être”), drawn up in consultation with its various stakeholders. This purpose is defined and articulated around the contribution to human progress to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. To do so, Veolia provides global and local solutions that facilitate access to essential services and natural resources. Therefore, Veolia has set itself the task of “Resourcing the world” through its environmental services business.

Following this significant step, the company adopted in February 2020 its Impact 2023 Strategy. The Strategy aims at focusing the company’s activities based on five types of performance: financial, commercial, social, societal and environmental. This commitment will be evaluated through 18 tangible performance indicators such as clean water, responsible consumption and production, reducing inequalities etc. The fulfillment of the objectives will be regularly audited and evaluated by a third-party organization. The strategy also clearly defines operations Veolia is now specialist in, the need for reinventing its core business activities (i.e. decarbonisation of district heating networks), and proposes innovative solutions for tomorrow. As a part of the Strategy the group’s President, Antoine Frérot announced Veolia would phase-out its coal related activities in Europe by 2030.
