The Paris climate deal paves the way for an energy revolution in Europe and in the rest of the world. As part of their contributions to the limitation of global warming to just 1,5C degrees, many countries have already planned a shift towards renewable energies.

Following the call from President Juncker to maintain global leadership in renewables, Europe should now make a firm and resolute commitment to a flourishing and vibrant domestic renewable energy market.

Acceleration of renewable energy deployment in Europe, based on a balanced mix of technologies, will deliver a clean and efficient energy system fit for the twenty-first century, while strengthening the European renewable industry.

As renewables become the most cost competitive energy option for society, it is time for Europe to move away from a business-as-usual scenario and to be ambitious. This is why we, the undersigned organisations, call on the European Commission to model this year an appropriate range of policy scenarios, which should include renewable energy targets of at least 30%, 35% and 40% by the year 2030.
