R&I activities in cross-border cooperation

The European Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan Action 6 aspires to “make EU industry less energy and resources intensive, more carbon-neutral and competitive”. A central objective of the Action 6 Implementation Plan is to enhance cooperation between national financing programmes in order to develop R&I activities into actual projects in the sectors of steel production, chemicals, system integration as well as heat and cold technologies.

We therefore invite you to complete a survey on which of the SET Plan Action 6 areas you have an interest in conducting R&I activities in cross-border cooperation.

The aims of the survey are to:

• Engage with stakeholders to map their interests in Action 6 areas;
• Map critical masses of stakeholders interested in the same area, per country, in order to identify opportunities for cross-border cooperation.

Using the information from the survey, the Set Plan Action 6 Secretariat will:

• Match areas of interest and funding available in specific countries;
• Guide country representatives to support cross-border collaboration through their funding programmes, where need has been identified in specific R&I areas;
• Organise tailored networking events for industry, research centres and country representatives;
• Provide new project ideas with funding advice.

Thus far, a critical mass has not been reached for any of the areas. There is, however, evidence of an interest in the heating and cooling areas of technologies for the utilisation of waste heat and heat recovery. For systems and infrastructure, industrial symbiosis and digitalisation have attracted the most interest. The level of interest is nevertheless too low for cross-border cooperation support to begin.

The survey was launched on 26^th August 2019. It remains open until 22 November 2019, as not enough responses have been received to fulfil the above aims.

Financing programmes relevant to the Strategic Energy Technologies (SET) Plan Action 6 on Energy Efficiency in Industry

The SET Plan Action 6 Secretariat would also like to invite you to complete a survey on national R&I funding/financing schemes available to industry in your country to support the delivery of the Implementation Plan.

Using the information from the survey, the Secretariat will:

• Match funding available in specific countries with areas of interest indicated by industry and research centres;
• Guide country representatives to support cross-border collaboration through their funding programmes, where need has been identified in specific R&I areas;
• Organise tailored networking events for industry, research centres and country representatives;
• Provide new project ideas with funding advice.
