setplanmain16Stakeholders are gathered in Bratislava from 30 November to 2 December to discuss the future of the European research and innovation strategy in achieving the targets of the Energy Union. The conference provides for a high-level, international dialogue that will stimulate deliberation on future policy options and help identify priorities for action.

A central element to the discussions will be the SET-Plan adopted in September 2015. The SET Plan translated the Energy Union Research, Innovation and Competitiveness priorities into ten actions. Since then, important progress has been made: stakeholders from governments, industry and research have outlined priorities for action with ambitious targets that accelerate the transformation of Europe’s energy system, ensure European leadership in low-carbon technologies and create jobs and growth.

At the conference, delegates will take stock of what has been achieved already and what remains to be addressed. The conference will pay attention to assessing the role of Central European countries, including their contributions to the implementation of the goals of the Energy Union and the Integrated SET-Plan. At the end of the conference, draft recommendations will be agreed which will then serve as guidelines for the implementation of the SET Plan and the Energy Union.

Building on the SET-Plan priorities, Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič will take the opportunity to present the new strategy “Accelerating the clean energy innovation” as part of the Clean Energy for All European package adopted on 30 November.
